As a compassionate orthopaedic and specialist upper limb surgeon, Dr Duncan McGuire treats conditions that affect the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. These conditions may include chronic degenerative conditions, overuse injuries and acute trauma. Dr McGuire also has a special interest in peripheral nerve and brachial plexus surgery which includes obstetric brachial plexus injuries in children. He has experience in a broad spectrum surgical procedures such as open surgery, minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery.
Dr Duncan McGuire's private practice is based at Mediclinic Cape Town. He also works as an orthopaedic surgeon in the public sector as a consultant in the Hand Surgery Unit and Orthopaedic Department at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. He is affiliated with the University of Cape Town, where he is also involved in teaching medical students and registrars who are specialising in orthopaedic and plastic surgery. Due to his academic affiliations and teaching commitments, he has to stay up to date with the latest evidence-based medicine.

Medical Training:
Dr Duncan McGuire studied and obtained his medical degree at The University of the Witwatersrand in Gauteng. He then proceeded to specialise in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children's Hospital.
Furthering his orthopaedic training and passion, he went on to complete a fellowship in upper limb surgery in Australia.

Awards and Associations
Dr McGuire is on the executive committee of the South African Society for Surgery of the Hand, a member of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of South Africa and a member of the South African Orthopaedic Association.
He is the section editor for "Hand Surgery" for the South African Orthopaedic Journal. In 2011 he was awarded the Edelstein medal for being the top candidate in the country in the orthopaedic final specialist exams.
